Scotland Unveils Squad After Stepping in for Bangladesh at T20 World Cup 2026

In a major pre-tournament twist ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 — co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka starting February 7 — Scotland has formally named its 15-member squad after being drafted in as a last-minute replacement for Bangladesh.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Bangladesh will no longer take part in the T20 World Cup after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to send the team to play matches scheduled in India, citing security concerns. Despite discussions and independent assessments by the ICC finding no credible security threat, the BCB stood by its decision, leading to its exclusion.

Scotland’s squad includes a blend of experienced campaigners and exciting talents, led by skipper Richie Berrington. Notable names include Tom Bruce, Matthew Cross, George Munsey and Safyaan Sharif, while Afghan-born fast bowler Zainullah Ihsan earns his maiden call-up at the global event.

As the newly-selected squad gears up, their T20 World Cup campaign will kick off in Group C, where they face tough opponents like West Indies, England, Italy and Nepal. With limited preparation time, Cricket Scotland’s leadership has expressed confidence and excitement, emphasizing the honour of competing on cricket’s biggest T20 stage despite the unusual circumstances
